Most of you probly heard that Tim and I took a weekend trip to Kyoto last month but I am just now getting around to blogging a few photos for you guys! I post all the photos online on snapfish.com, but for those of you with slow internet or those who don't want to make an account there and look through hundreds of bad photos, I'll just share a few good ones with you here! If you are interested in seeing more pictures leave me a comment or email me and I will send you an invite to view my many albums!
Here's Tim waiting for the bullet train that will take us to Nagoya. He appears to be counting the copious amounts of yen we brought just to be on the safe side.
Here are Tim and Makiko on the train, you can see my flash in the window! Makiko was nice enough to invite us to stay at her parents house in Kyoto for our trip!
Here's the shinkansen platform in Nagoya, where we are waiting to transfer to a train bound for Kyoto.
I am enjoying my can of Coke with a twist top lid! The most amazing invention ever! Your Coke stays cold, but you can re-close it like a plastic bottle. Genius.
It's late Friday night by the time we arrive at Makiko's parents' house so it's straight to the futons for Tim and I.
Saturday morning on the way to the bus station we walked along this beautiful river! Tim was quite taken with this bird. I think it's a heron?
We took the bus to the Golden Pavilion Temple. Pretty cool right? After reading Flat Stanly my cousin Emily's first grade class sent paper cut outs of themselves to relatives far away, so Tim and I brought Flat Emily to Kyoto with us, she is in that envelope with us, we were trying to decide if it was worth the risk of her getting wet in the rain and decided not to take her out just yet.
The next place we went was Nijo Castle. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nij%C5%8D_Castle) This place was awesome!! They don't allow pictures inside which sucks because the inside of the castle was the coolest part, but the grounds were pretty awesome too!
It has a moat!
After dinner we headed to the botanical gardens to see the cherry trees at night. They were really beautiful!
The next morning we headed to the Imperial Palace grounds. The Emperor doesn't live there anymore, but the grounds are open to the public and beautiful!
I have lots more pictures but it's bed time for me! Hope you all enjoyed them!
